WHAT'S NEW AT KNC?

1) Our Homeopathic Flu Kits Have Arrived!

Our flu kits are comprised of Thymuline (9CH) and Influenzinum (9 CH):

•    Thymuline is one of the hormones produced by the thymus that are believed to play a role in the maturation of T-lymphocytes and overall modulation of the immune system. Thymuline stimulates the body to fight effectively from viral or bacterial agents.

•    Influenzinum is a remedy made from the updated influenza vaccine. The composition of Influenzinum changes each year according to the antigenic variations detected by the World Health Organization surveillance network. Therefore, Influenzinum is best purchased yearly each fall.

Both Influenzinum and Thymuline are especially useful for people who want flu protection, but do not want the potential for harmful side-effects.

Stop by our office to pick up your flu kit today!

Low Dose Allergens (LDA)

PURPOSE
LDA is an immunotherapy that uses a low dose of the enzyme beta glucuronidase to activate an extremely small amount of allergen to stimulate the patient’s immune system to produce T Regulator cells.  These T Regulator cells in turn de-activate T Helper cells, the cells that misinterpret normal body substances as allergens, which activate an immune response.

HISTORY
Dr. Leonard M. McEwen, M.D., developed Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization (EPD), which was also a very low dose form of allergy treatment in England in the 1960’s.  Due to the fact that this therapy was so successful and had strong scientific studies to account for its success in treating allergies, sensitivities and intolerances, D.r Shrader, Jr., MD from the U.S., adopted this style of allergy therapy.  In 2001 EDP became unavailable in the U.S., so Dr. Shrader developed LDA to replace EDP.   Currently, in the U.S., there are 75 physicians using LDA and those that treated originally with EDP, report that LDA is very comparable.

MECHAINSM OF ACTION
LDA is used to treat several different types of sensitivities, allergies and intolerances to many foods, chemicals and inhalants, including:

Foods and food additives
Inhalants
•    Inhaled pollen, animal dander, dust, mites, insects, fungi, yeast and Candida spp. and molds
Chemicals
•    Most common chemicals and scents, formaldehyde and detergents,
Woods

ADMINISTRATION
LDA immunotherapy involves extremely low dose intradermal injection of 0.05 cc in the forearm.  Most patients receive 1-2 injections per treatment.  At first treatments are every 2 months for a 12-month period and then they taper accordingly.  Most adult patients with severe conditions require 16-18 treatments.  Children under 12 years of age may have longer periods of time in between treatments and stop earlier.

RISK
Risk of fatal or life-threatening systemic reactions due to LDA treatment is negligible.  An estimated 300 000 doses of LDA have been given worldwide and life threatening reactions have never been reported.  Children as young as one month old have been treated safely and effectively with LDA.

HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS?
60% of patients that have been treated with LDA have experienced a significant reduction in symptoms from just one treatment.  The majority of patients benefit from treatment within 3 treatments.

Neural ProloTherapy (NPT)

Purpose
Neural Prolotherapy is a technique developed by Dr. John Lyftogt MD of New Zealand to treat joint, tendon, ligament and acute and chronic muscle pain.  NPT is based on Hilton’s Law, which states that the nerve supplying a joint also supplies the muscle that moves that joint and the skin that covers the muscular insertion at the joint.  NPT is an injection of a sugar solution (dextrose or mannitol), administered just under the skin, close to the subcutaneous nerves.   These damaged nerves have shown to respond to the injections, as the sugar binds pre-synaptic calcium channels and inhibits the release of substance P thus decreasing neurogenic inflammation

History
Dr. Lyftgot has been a practicing physician since 1978 and works at the world – renowned sports center in Australia that was built for the Commonwealth Games.  His clinical focus was primarily on prolotherapy after he trained with Dr. Margaret Taylor of Australia in 2003 until he developed NPT.  Dr. Lyftgot developed the technique of neural prolotherapy to treat Achilles tendons, and has treated over 300 with a success rate of greater than 90%.  Since then, Dr. Lyftgot has extended this treatment to treating a variety of areas throughout the body, with success rates between 80-90% in 6-8 sessions.

Conditions treated
Achilles tendonitis, Compartment Syndrome, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, Post surgical pain/discomfort, Arthritic pain, Osteoarthritis, Frozen shoulder, Trigger points, Carpel tunnel syndrome, Tendonitis, Surgical scar resections, Plantar fasciitis, Neuralgia’s/neuritis, Morton’s neuroma, Nerve entrapment, Trigeminal neuralgia, Fibromyalgia, Frequent migraines/headaches, Sciatica, Back pain, Thoracic outlet syndrome, Muscles spasm, Whiplash

Mechanism of Action
These subcutaneous nerves that are causing neurogenic inflammation consist of connective tissue and are very similar structurally to ligaments and tendon.  This neurogenic inflammation does not respond to anti-inflammatory treatment or cortisone injections.  Thus, it is hypothesized that the dextrose/mannitol not only blocks substance P, it also assists in connective tissue repair in tendons and ligaments.

Protocol
Treatments typically consist of 6-8 sessions of very small injections under the skin.  Patients may experience some tenderness or slight bruising at the injection site.
